CUNCOLIM: Fatorpa, geographically in Quepem taluka, but closely linked to both Cuncolim and Velim, is now seeing a rapid rise of COVID cases, which are reportedly linked to the recent COVID hotspot of Ambelim.

On Tuesday eleven more COVID-19 cases were detected at Bomdamol Fatorpa. Last week two positive cases were detected at Fatorpa and one positive case was detected at Buring, Balli. All these cases are linked to the positive cases at Ambelim.

How the Fatorpa ‘fever’ spread

Some days ago, one family attended the wedding ceremony of a relative at Betul. Two people from this family of Bomdamol got infected with the virus from their relative at the wedding. Within a week, more than fourteen people at Bomdamol tested COVID positive.

The Primary Health Centre Balli did extensive testing at Bomdamol on Monday with more than a hundred samples taken, out of which twelve were found positive.

Local bodies ‘declare’ their own lockdowns

With increasing COVID cases in and around Fatorpa, Balli, Cuncolim, Ambelim, Velim and Chinchinim local self-governing bodies had declared an eight days lockdown in their area.

Meanwhile markets in Cuncolim, Fatorpa, Balli and Chinchinim remained shut.

Residents of Fatorpa and surrounding areas are demanding to declare Bomdamol as a micro-containment zone. Sources from the Health Department said that the government will take appropriate decisions after the detailed study of the Bomdamol ward.
