Well-known tiatrist comedian Peter D’Costa expired on Monday at his residence in Colva. Pater who was suffering from liver ailment was not seen much on stage of late due to his ill health.
Incidentally, Peter released his new album of songs “Peter D’Costa Abhi Tak Zinda Hai” Rok Sakta to Roklo” just one day before his death.
Born in a family of tiatrists, his siblings, Dioginho, late Camilo, Joaquim, Josephine and David are all noted artistes of the Konkani stage.
Pater had acted in tiatrs of many well-known directors, such as Roseferns, A M Pacheco, Pascoal Rodrigues, Filipe Almeida Mini Mario, Milagres de Chandor, F Cardozo.
Meanwhile, well-known tiatr director Rose Ferns under who’s guidance Peter had worked as a comedian for nearly a decade expressed deep shock over the demise of his former comedian.
Speaking to Herald he said “Peter was a dedicated comedian with a knack for character comedy, he would impersonate any famous personality to the hilt. As a comedian I was aware of his capabilities and always strived to bring out the best in him. He had once in an interview acknowledged “Roseferns knows better than me what I can do best as a comedian”. May his soul rest in peace”.
Comedian Sally who partnered Peter as a comedian in Rose ferns dramatic troupe also paid rich tributes. Speaking to Herald he said “Peter was a very dedicated comedian with an eye for perfection. We shared a very good rapport on stage. May God give his family the courage and strength to bear the loss” he concluded.
Comedian Peter D’Costa is no more but the fond memories of his histrionics on stage will always linger in our minds. We at the Herald deeply mourn the loss of this talented tiatrist and convey our heartfelt sympathies of his wife Margarita, son Marion, and his family.
The mortal remains of Peter will be laid to rest on October 12th 2010, at 4 pm after an Eucharistic celebration at Our Lady of Merces Church, Colva.
