Freedom fighter Madkaikar celebrates 100th birthday

Veteran freedom fighter, Shamrao Madkaikar celebrated his 100th birthday on Wednesday, as people from all walks of life greeted the Communist leader and thinker at his Navelim residence.
Chief Minister, Digambar Kamat, former Chief Minister, Shashikala Kakodkar, communist leaders, besides freedom fighters called on Madkaikar and greeted him on his 100th birthday.
Frail looking Madkaikar, who has expressed his grief over the state of affairs in Goa, had an advice or two for the Chief Minister. When Kamat called on Madkaikar this evening, he sought to know from him why he often air dashes to Delhi. And, he advised the Chief Minister to work for the betterment of the people and shower love on the people, which Kamat promised to follow.
The Chief Minister described Madkaikar as a great freedom fighter having fought for Goa’s Liberation and wished him on behalf of the people of Goa.
“Madkaikar not only fought for Goa’s Liberation, but work for the State and its people post Liberation”, he added.
Replying to a question, the Chief Minister said the government is committed to give jobs to families of freedom fighters, who have not got any government job for their wards.
“If there is any such family of the freedom fighters, the government will make efforts to provide one job to such a family”, he said, adding that he has asked the associations of freedom fighters to finalise the list and submit the same before the committee for finalization.
