Raid conducted following Central and local intelligence inputs and sharpshooters arrested; Hirers of the killers were present but managed to escape; 5 cell phones and SIM cards bought in Delhi for operation

PANJIM: The presence of the sharpshooters in Anjuna, who were arrested on Friday before completing their ‘hit’ on Anjuna businessman, Gajendra Chotu Singh, came through a tipoff from Central intelligence agencies to the State Police. Based on more local intelligence the raid was conducted and two shooters arrested.

Sources said that the central tipoff was passed to Crime Branch and Calangute Police over 10 days ago. Crime Branch had sent six personnel to nab the shooters.

Meanwhile, in an interesting revelation, sources said that Ravikant Yadav and Vipin Singh who allegedly hired the shooters were also likely to be there but managed to escape.

Police sources said the criminals had purchased five cell phones and SIM cards in Delhi. Everyone had kept their phones in Delhi and Haryana so as to baffle police and make it difficult to race their location in Goa

Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar appreciated Crime Branch for the swift action in arresting the sharpshooters before they could commit the crime.

“Home Department is serious about detection of crimes. It is a good sign that criminals are arrested before they commit the crime. You can’t stop criminals from coming here. You don’t know who is coming to Goa,” Manohar Parrikar said, reacting to the incident.
