Three complaints filed against Abhishek Banerjee for derogatory tweet on St Francis Xavier

PANJIM/MARGAO: Three complaints have been filed against Abhishek Banerji for derogatory post on micro-blogging site ‘X’ (twitter) against St Francis Xavier. The complaints were filed with the Inspector General of Police, Panjim and Colva and Maina Curtorim police stations. 

A group of Catholics submitted a complaint to Goa IGP, on Monday regarding the derogatory tweet saying the events referred to, are not referring to St Francis Xavier and are aimed at hurting the sentiments of the devotees of St Francis Xavier and tarnishing the image of a disciplined and faithful community. This is also aimed at creating social unrest in Goa, the complaint stated. 

The same complaint was filed before the Colva Police Station by Michael Gracias, Fidoll Pereira, Samford Fernandes and Clive Cardozo. 

In the third instance, Anthony Barbosa  lodged a complaint with Maina Curtorim Police  against one Abhishek Banerjee for hurting religious sentiments of all the faithful  devotees of St Francis Xavier.

He said in his complaint that Banerji used vulgar language to outrage the religious feeling of St Francis Xavier’s devotees and made statements to promote disharmony with an intention to create discrimination amongst different religions thereby outraging the feeling of the Catholic . He has asked  the police to initiate action into the matter.
