Tivrem-Vargao locals furious as sarpanch remains absent for third time

PONDA: Tivrem-Vargao locals were furious on sarpanch for being absent for the third time and also on deputy sarpanch and two panchas for the gram sabha meeting held on Sunday.

The locals questioned the purpose of conducting gram sabha. 

They said, “Sarpanch can be seen attending other programmes then why can’t she attend the gram sabhas.” 

They grilled Panchayat Secretary, who later told gram sabha members that Sarpanch Unnati Naik had informed him about her non-attendance on medical ground and has provided medical certificate as a supporting document. 

However, the locals could not digest it as the sarpanch was absent for three consecutive gram sabhas. 

The locals were upset that even Deputy Sarpanch Sidharth Gaude was absent for the meeting. 

Following this, some locals demanded to conduct gram sabha by electing one local as chairperson of gram sabha. 

At the Usgao-Ganjem gram sabha, the locals demanded to repair and restore the Ganjem to Nanus Usgao potholed-ridden road in eight days.

The locals said, “The potholed-ridden road has become dangerous to commute for them.”
