Tourism stakeholders to form new association

CALANGUTE: Tourism stakeholders from across the State are getting ready to form an umbrella association to safeguard their interests and to unitedly take up issues concerning their businesses and problems.

The association will include beach shack owners, small and medium hoteliers, guesthouse owners, water sports operators, rent-a-bike, rent-a-car and tourist taxi operators, sunbed owners, lifeguards, vendors and other tourism stakeholders.

At a meeting of stakeholders was recently held in Calangute, John Lobo, general secretary of the Shacks Owners Welfare Society (SOWS),  said the association will be formed shortly. “The travel and tourism association of Goa (TTAG) is not taking care of all the stakeholders. They're only representing the five-star resorts and travel agencies. They don't represent shack owners, water sports operators, small and medium hoteliers and others. We want an association to represent all stakeholders,” he said.

Lobo said the process to form the association has started and they are working on drafting the constitution. It will be an all-Goa association, he said.
