Transfer of MMC’s Chief Officer stalled

MARGAO: The Chief Officer of the Margao Municipal Council Agnelo Fernandes is likely to continue as Chief Officer as Johnson Fernandes has not taken charge of the post yet. Johnson Fernandes is holding full-time charge as Director of Settlement & Land Records Panjim and is also the Administrator of Canacona Municipality.

Agnelo was transferred two days ago. There was murmur that the transfer order was issued following him submitting tender for the single bio-methanation plant for Margao garbage. As the tender for the bio-methanation plant has been sent for acceptance it is likely that the work order may be further delayed due to the poll code in the State.

When contacted Agnelo said "I am a Govt servant. The transfer is part of Government service. I can work anywhere.” Agnelo currently holds the post in the Mormugao Municipal Council too.

Wherever I am posted I want to do justice to the post. Post does not matter to me, but my service to people matters to me" said Agnelo.

Agnelo may be playing it down but there have been lots of underlying differences between the Margao Municipal Administration and the Urban Development over the tendering of the bio-methanation plants for Margao. The number of plants has gone from 10 to 7 to 3 and now 1 sanctioned by the High Powered Committee chaired by the Chief Minister.
