PANJIM: The insistence of traffic authorities to produce original documents of vehicles when they stop motorists on the road will change as Transport Department on Friday decided to accept driving licences, registration certificate (RC) and emission test certificates stored in electronic format through Digilocker platform.

Digilocker is a digital repository of ID documents and certificates issued to citizens and is linked to his or her Aadhaar number. The digitally signed Digilocker electronic certificates can be downloaded by the users on their personal electronic devices.

“Such licences, RC books and emission certificates will be treated on par with certificates issued by the department in the form of smart card or paper form,” Transport Director Nikhil Desai said, and added, “However, the circular does not apply to those cases where driving licence or RC book has been seized or suspended by law enforcement authority.”

The DigiLocker (digilocker. gov.in) was introduced to facilitate access to documents anytime and anywhere, eliminating the need to carry them in person.
