PANJIM: The Finance Department has imposed a restriction on the transportation of liquor within the jurisdiction of Panjim from May 17-19 in view of the by-poll on Sunday. The order, however gives relaxation for the possession of alcohol. A maximum of three quart bottles of IMFL other than beer, three quart bottles of country made liquor and six bottles of beer of 650 ml for any person including his family are permitted without a permit.

“No liquor shall be transported from one place to another within the jurisdiction of Panjim constituency. The maximum quantity of liquor, which can be possessed by any person within the said areas without a permit issued, is in accordance with the provisions of the Goa Excise Duty Act. The rules are effective during the period from 6pm of May 17 till the intervening midnight of May 19-20 in view of polling and from May 23 midnight to May 24 midnight on account of counting of votes within the jurisdiction of Panjim constituency for the by-election to Panjim constituency to the Goa Legislative Assembly,” the notification states. 

The notification further states that all licensed liquor premises should be closed from 6pm on May 17 till intervening midnight of May 19-20 and for one day from May 23-midnight till May 24-midnight. However, the licensed premises having license for Bar & Restaurant “may be allowed to keep the restaurant open for serving food only and the Bar counter should be closed and no liquor shall be served on the mentioned dates.”

Owners of Bar & Restaurant licensed premises are asked to display a board that only food will be served and no liquor is allowed.
