Tree felling and hill cutting debated at Mandrem sabha

PERNEM: The Mandrem gram sabha was held on Sunday and since there was not a single written question presented by the villagers, the discussion revolved around minutes of the previous meeting.

Gram sabha member Shankar Govekar drew the attention the panchayat to mass tree felling and hill cutting due to 'Amrapali' project. “Such big projects are power and water guzzlers which affect the common people who live here and at present the residents of Junawada, Marathwada and Naikwada have to bear the brunt,” Govekar said and added that the panchayat should examine the mega projects before issuing them licenses,” he said.

Sarpanch Amit Sawant presided over the meeting.  A resolution was passed to congratulate Sachi Sawant and Siddhant Govekar and the Sarpanch informed that Sawant will be travelling abroad to present her talent and the panchayat would be bearing her travel expenses and added that Govekar will be awarded Rs 51,000 on August 15.

Deputy sarpanch Tara Hadpadkar, panch members Kiran Sawant, Prashant naik, Robert Fernandes, Miguel Fernandes, Chetana Pednekar were present during the sabha.

The Sarpanch promised to undertake two development works in each ward from panchayat funds and appealed to the people to pay house tax on time.
