PONDA: The Dharbandora Truck Owners Association on Tuesday requested the State government and mining companies to increase the iron ore transportation rates.

During a meeting with the Dharbandora Deputy Collector and the concerned mining companies’ officials, the truck owners showed unwillingness to restart the iron ore transportation on the basis of old rates decided five years ago, since the Supreme Court has allowed it till the end of January 2021.

The truck owners said, “Unless the rates are hiked they will not bring their trucks at the mining company for ore transportation and have decided to stay away from ore transportation until their demand for increase in rates is fulfilled by the mining companies and State government.”

In the meeting, the truck owners brought to notice that the old rates for ore transportation decided five years ago are not changed and are not affordable as there is rise in rates of diesel and trucks spare parts.

Deputy Collector Pradeep Naik asked the truck owners to discuss the issue with the mining companies’ officials to find out an amicable solution so that ore transportation could be started soon.

President Balaji Gawas said, “They are worried about the rise in expenditure on the maintenance of trucks for bringing it on the road as the ore transportation will continue only for a short period till January.”

“The truck owners are very much interested in ore transportation and considering Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant’s assurance to find out a solution in eight days time the association has postponed their decision,” Gawas said.
