CANACONA: The Canacona health centre has detected 12 dengue cases in Canacona and locals are worried and concerned about its spread in the taluka. 

The Canacona Community Health centre (CHC), the lone government hospital in the taluka caters to over 50,000 people. So far 12 persons living in the taluka were detected with dengue since the beginning of the year.

Sources at the health centre confirmed that infact 12 cases of dengue were detected, out of which 7 were locals and 5 migrants.

CHC record shows that almost all the locals who were detected with dengue had gone out of the State for various reasons before they were tested positive.

Hhospital sources said that after detecting dengue fever in Canacona awareness programmes have been held in almost all villages of the taluka.

During the awareness programmes people are informed to keep all water containers closed along with other dos and don'ts to stop breeding of the mosquitoes which are responsible for the spread of this vector-borne diseases.

Fogging and spraying was also undertaken in the taluka.

"All activities to control mosquito breeding have been taken besides the CMC team has been conducting house to house visits regularly with the help of local leaders and awareness programmes are also being held in different schools in view of the detection of this disease", said a hospital source.
