Two arrested for allegedly raping a Russian woman

The tourist was allegedly raped in a hotel at Calangute on Thursday, barely hours after she had arrived in Goa

Calangute: At a time when Goa is desperately looking to shrug off the impact of Russia-Ukraine war on the tourism sector, the police arrested two men on Friday for allegedly raping a Russian tourist in Calangute.

The Russian tourist was allegedly raped by two room boys in a hotel in Calangute on Thursday barely hours after she had landed in Goa. 

The two room boys were arrested for allegedly committing unlawful sexual assault after the complainant lady lodged a complaint on Friday. 

Calangute PI Dattaguru Sawant said the two accused, Sakil Ansari, 23, and Sahimuddin Ansari, 22, both natives of Bardiya, Nepal, who are employed as room boys of a hotel in Calangute raped the Russian native.

“The complainant/victim lady is a Russian national who had come down to Goa yesterday and was residing in the hotel where she was sexually exploited by hotel room boys,” PI Sawant said. 

Both the accused persons were instantly traced and placed under arrest and are presently in police custody, PI Sawant said. 

Further investigation is in progress with LPSI Pragati Malik under the supervision of PI Sawant, SDPO Porvorim Vishvesh Karpe under the overall supervision of SP-North Nidhin Valsan, IPS.
