MAPUSA: Calangute police arrested two persons for accepting bet on Indian Premier League Cricket matches at Eden Garden Hotel in Calangute.
Police said that Calangute PI Jivba Dalvi received information that betting on Indian Premier League cricket matches was going on at Eden Garden Hotel in Calangute. Accordingly, under the supervision of SP Kartik Kashyap and DySP Serafin Dias, conducted a raid and busted an interstate IPL betting racket.
During the raid, police arrested Chandrashekhar Thakur, a native of Chattisgarh and Lalit Shyam, a native of Haryana. The arrested were caught red handed accepting bets on IPL cricket match between Gujarat Lions and Kolkatta Knight Riders on mobile phones.
Police have also seized 12 mobile phones, two laptops, one LED TV and other articles from the room.
Police have booked the accused persons under section 3 & 4 of Goa Daman & Diu Public Gambling Act, 1976 and Section 420 of IPC.
The accused were produced before Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC), Mapusa, who remanded them in police custody for two days.
The raiding team consisted of PI Jivba Dalvi, PSIs Mahesh Naik, Videsh Pilgaonkar, Head Constable Subhash Malvankar, PC Yogesh Bordekar and Sheyas Sakhlakar.
