BICHOLIM: In a remarkable display of creativity and innovation, two students from Shantadurga Higher Secondary School in Bicholim --Shan Shaikh and Sehab Baig, have successfully made an electric car as part of their science project. The electric car, designed around a DC motor, achieves a mileage of 100 kms at a speed of 40 kms per hour on a single charge.

Principal Orlando Menezes, impressed by the students' achievement, presented them with a special honour during a felicitation ceremony organized by Shantadurga Mandal.

The initiative was born, when a physics teacher at Shantadurga Higher Secondary School challenged the students to create something innovative for 20 marks. Taking this challenge seriously, Shan Shaikh and Sehab Baig, both Class XI Science students, dedicated two months to building the electric car, with guidance from their mentor, teacher Divya Gaonkar.

The project, costing Rs 70,000, utilized equipment sourced from local garages, with additional assistance from Maisuddin Masekar, a Class XII student. The students had previously participated in the West India Science Fair.

Bicholim MLA Dr Chandrakant Shetye extended his congratulations to Shan Shaikh and Sehab Baig for their remarkable achievements. The event concluded with a photo session featuring dignitaries Dinesh Mayekar, Rajesh Dhond, Principal Orlando Menezes and others.
