PANJIM: A two-month-old infant became the youngest victim of COVID-19 in the State on Tuesday as mortalities rose to 555.

The State recorded 285 new cases and 361 new recoveries bringing down the active cases to 3,201, but the mortalities remain a cause for concern.

Shockingly, amongst the six deaths was 2-month-25-day-old infant from Guirim, who had no co-morbidity. The others were a 79-year-old man from Aquem, a 76-year-old woman from Quepem, a 70-year-old man from Vagator, a 72-year-old woman from Mapusa and an 82-year-old woman from Sao Jose de Areal. Of the 6 deaths, 3 were recorded at GMC, 2 at ESI hospital and one patient was declared dead on arrival at Hospicio hospital.

While the confirmed cases have now crossed 41,031, the total recoveries are 37,275. The testing improved slightly on Tuesday as 1,502 samples were tested as against 741 on Monday.
