PANJIM: Cavelossim Village Forum (CVF) has hit out strongly at the recent statements made by Benaulim MLA Churchill Alemao regarding sand dunes, and for aspersions cast on environmentalists like Claude Alvares. They also defended their action regarding the training wall at the mouth of river Sal that is connected to the fishing activities at Cutbona.

The forum accused the MLA of not doing anything to protect the CRZ of Benaulim and said his statements exposed his ignorance of the law and the vital importance of sand dunes to protect the villages from global warming, etc. CVF also pointed out that the Goa State Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) had sent expert members and officials to physically inspect the whole stretch of CRZ area from Cavelossim to Velsao to ground truth and to verify the details of all objections and suggestions received from the stakeholders which include the actual height, length and width of existing sand dunes. “It has proved to be a scientific exercise and what a management plan demands,” CVF added.
