PANJIM: The Tourism Department is set to launch a mobile application to curb illegal activities on the beaches. The department is also contemplating to earmark “picnic zones” across beaches where liquor will be allowed subject to permission from the concerned authorities.

Tourism Minister Manohar Ajgaonkar told reporters that the App, which is expected to launch within one month’s time, will also keep a check on the cleanliness on the beaches.

“I want the entire coastal belt clean… no garbage… there should be no drowning deaths, no hawkers, no bottles strewn on the beaches, and no illegal activities. For this, an App will be launched within one month,” he said.

The App will ensure the violators and/or persons involved in illegal activities are taken to task with police involvement. “Anyone found violating the law will be taken to the police station and action will be initiated accordingly,” the minister added.

The upcoming App has come as a warning to those tourists who have been creating nuisance on the beaches as well as migrants, whose influx in the tourist locations multiplies during the tourist season.

On the drowning cases, the minister said he has asked the Drishti Lifesaving to ensure no further drowning deaths are reported in the State. The agency made around 70 new recruitments after a large number of its lifeguards have been on strike over delay in payments and regularization of service. The payments were thereafter released by the company.
