MARGAO: Law and Judiciary Minister Aleixo Sequeira said that the last date for registration under the Value Added Tax (VAT) Act for liquor traders and village bars has been extended by a month.

Sequeira pointed out that some concerned traders had met him recently with a request for the extension of the last date, following which he had taken up the issue with the Chief Minister who had then issued instructions to extend the last date for registration by a month

“Had the government not extended the date of registration, the traders would have had pay a penalty of Rs 25,000. All those who have not yet registered, they now have a month to apply and comply with the requirements without having to pay any penalty,” said the Minister.

The 90-day time limit given to liquor traders to register for VAT online ended on December 20, this year.
