Varsity’s first VC Prof Sheikh Ali, acting VC Dr Adi Doctor no more

PANJIM: Eminent history professor and first vice-chancellor of Mangalore and Goa universities Dr B Sheikh Ali and former acting vice-chancellor of GU, Dr Adi Doctor passed away. 

Dr Ali died at a private hospital at Mysuru on Thursday after brief illness. He was 98.

The history scholar was a student of Mysore University and retired from there after serving as a professor of history. He was the first vice chancellor of Mangalore University as well as Goa University. He was responsible for the emergence of a number of scholars in History from the University of Mysore, a family member said.

Former acting vice-chancellor and former Dean and Head of Department of Political Science, Goa University, Prof Adi H Doctor passed away on Wednesday. He was 86.

Prof Doctor, known as father of political science in Goa retired from Goa University in 1996. He joined Goa University in 1974, a year after the department of political science was set up in Goa and rose to become, head, dean and vice-chancellor. 

As a teacher, Prof Doctor nurtured hundreds of PhD, post-graduate students directly and undergraduate students indirectly by formulating and fine tuning the syllabi as an extremely good mentor.
