VASCO: The Vasco Carnival celebration will begin on March 2 and the float parade will be held on March 4. The Carnival organising committee for the celebrations of Vasco has been formed.

MMC Chairperson Kritesh Gaonkar presided over the meeting on Thursday and Councillor Leo Rodrigues has been selected to be the committee chairman. Rs 20 lakhs for infrastructure and Rs 7.35 lakh for prize has been sanctioned by the Tourism department.

The committee has been formed according to the directives of the Tourism department. It will be headed by Leo Rodrigues, Vice President Fiola Rego, Councillors Lavina and Pascoal D’Souz and Organising Secretary Angelo Nunes.

Meanwhile, some of the committee members have expressed concerns over the clash of dates of Mahashivratri and Carnival parade. It is noted that every year, Carnival is held on Mondays in Vasco. However, this time Monday will see elaborate arrangements at the Damodar Sal in Vasco town wherein pandal will be erected outside the temple like every year for the devotees.

After some of the members raised concerns, the Chairperson has assured to speak to the Tourism department to find a way out of this dates clash.
