Vasco Police arrest rape accused after 6000-km chase

VASCO: After a long chase of 6000-km through four States, the Vasco Police arrested a 21-year-old Manjit Kumar, a native of Bihar on the charge of raping a minor girl.

The police said that after committing the offence the accused fled from Goa but the police managed to get his details due to tenant verification and technical surveillance. The police also found that the accused was on the run from Goa and had travelled to Bihar, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Kerala, where he was finally arrested.    

The Vasco Police team comprising PSI Ganesh Matondkar and constables Gaurish Satardekar and Ganesh Gaonkar continued chasing the accused and finally arrested him at Balussery in Kozhikode District of Kerala. Till then the accused gave the police a 6000-km-long chase by railways. 

A case has been registered against Manjit Kumar under Sections 376 (iii) of IPC and under Section 8 (2) of Goa Children’s Act and Section 4 and 8 of POCSO Act. Further investigations are on under the guidance of Vasco PIs Kapil Nayak and Anand Shirodkar.
