VASCO: In a rare act of honesty, two police constables attached to the Vasco Police Station returned the wallet they had spotted on the footpath along with the cash of Rs 23,760 to its rightful owner.

Amir Ranade and Mahendra Gawade both constables from Vasco Police Station said on Sunday afternoon while returning to the police station after patrolling duty, they noticed an object on the footpath near the St Andrew’s Church junction. Both got down from the bike and found it to be wallet containing cash and card.

There were people who wanted to stake claim on the wallet after seeing some cash and cards inside it. However the constables decided to deposit the wallet in the Vasco Police Station. Ranade said, “We checked the Aadhaar Card and got the address of a person, who was from Baina. Our police immediately intimated the nearby police to search for the address. Later the rightful owner of the wallet, Mohhammad Sharif Abubaqar, a resident of Sasmolem-Baina collected the wallet along with cash.

PI Nilesh Rane said that both constables have done a commendable job. It is a really appreciable and others also should take inspiration from it.
