PONDA: Veling-Priol-Cuncoliem Panchayat has issued seven days' notice for demolition  of illegally erected kiosks along the  Mangesh Temple road from the main gate to Manguesh Temple.

The decision to demolish the illegal kiosks was taken at the panchayat body meeting held on April 16.

It is learnt that last year one mahajan had filed a PIL in High Court against the illegally erected kiosks at Mangueshi. Based on the Court order, the panchayat has taken action and served notices  for demolition of the illegal kioks. The panchayat in its notice mentioned that  during its site inspection on September 5, 2023 revealed that those structures were constructed without permission from the panchayat. Further the panchayat has issued show-cause notice to the kiosk operators on the  October 20, 2023  asking to produce the document and licences for the same. However the panchayat found the reply by the kiosk operators to the show cause notices were unsatisfactory.

The panchayat now in its notice warned that if kiosk operators failed to demolish their structures on their own, then panchayat will initiate action to demolish the same without giving further notice as per the Goa Panchayat Raj Act 1994.

Meanwhile it is learnt that the Tourism Department had constructed a complex at Mangueshi with several shops and parking area, few years back, However most of kiosk operators have refused to shift to this complex as they fear they would not do good business if they shift to this complex. It is learnt that some kiosks are old and while some have been put up recently and are depending on the kiosks to earn their livelihood.
