MARGAO: Launching a scathing attack on the State government, Goa Forward Party (GPF) president  and former deputy chief minister Vijai Sardesai on Saturday termed the declaration of Goa as open defecation free (ODF) State as “fraud” and demanded that the CBI investigate into the road works across the State, which he described as a scandal bigger than "Bihar fodder scam ".

Questioning whether Margao and Fatorda are Open Defecation Free, he accused the government of committing a fraud by declaring Goa as ODF as both the Panjim Mayor and Margao municipal chairperson have not agreed to the status.

He also asked the local bodies whether they had inspected the construction sites, institutions and residences to check their ODF status.

"The ODF declaration has been made by diluting the norms and to save the State from embarrassment," he alleged.

"The honeymoon period of government is over, whether it is a “legitimate, illicit or defection wedding”. The honeymoon period only lasts only for some months," he claimed.

Criticising PWD Minister’s remark that all roads in the State would be restored by 2020, he claimed that Rs 200 crore have been spent on roads, which have deteriorated. “There is a need for a CBI inquiry into the road works as the same is worse than the Bihar fodder scam,” he demanded.

Taking a dig a Waste Management Minister Michael Lobo, Sardesai said, "The Minister came to Margao yesterday and we would want him to keep coming but for every visit he will be held accountable for the promises and statements made by him".

He said it is important that the elected representatives and the people should know about the government’s plan with regards to Sonsoddo as only MMC chief officer and the minister are aware of it.
