MARGAO: TCP Minister Vijai Sardesai has urged the tiatrists to make a representation to the government on bringing tiatr under the GST regime.

The minister suggested that the tiatrists should at least meet him on that issue so that he could make a representation to the authorities on their behalf.

Addressing a press conference on the GST issue, Vijai said, “GST has affected many traditional occupations in Goa and they have made representations. However, the tiatrists have neither met me nor conveyed their opposition to GST to the Art and Culture Department or to the Chief Minister,” Vijai said.

He said that Goenkaarpon is the central tenet of Goa Forward as such he would not compromise on the same.

“Tiatrists get personal on some issues; of late, they got personal with me. In a tiatr I was attacked using vulgar language, but I never objected to the tiatr nor stopped it as I consider tiatr to be our identity,” Vijai said.

He informed that tiatrs earning Rs 20-pus lakh would come under the tax bracket and the rest would not. “This means, many will get relief. However, they have to represent themselves,” Vijai added.
