MARGAO: South Goa MP Captain Viriato Fernandes has raised concerns over the recent inauguration of a Film Club at Ravindra Bhavan, Margao, questioning the prioritisation of this initiative over the urgent need for music, dance, and theatre classes for the community.
Fernandes expressed apprehension about a potential conflict of interest and suggested that the institution may be prioritising the interests of private entities over the broader cultural needs of Goans.
Fernandes urged Ravindra Bhavan to first address internal issues and focus on establishing essential music, dance, and theatre training classes. “Ravindra Bhavan, Margao serves as the cultural centre for Salcete taluka. There is a significant demand for regular training in music, dance, and theatre,” he emphasised.
He pointed out that according to government declarations, the Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG) is responsible for film-related activities, including film clubs.
Fernandes called on Ravindra Bhavan to concentrate on promoting arts and culture through education and training for children and youth.
“I hope Art and Culture Minister Govind Gaude will take note of my request and direct officials to commence these classes without delay. The government should ensure that individuals with potential conflicts of interest, who may favour private institutions, are not part of Ravindra Bhavan’s management,” said Fernandes.
