MARGAO: South Goa MP Francisco Sardinha has asked the Government to walk the talk on the assurances that they made for the resumption of mining.

Reacting to Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant’s statement on mining, Sardinha said that the Government gives assurances as soon as the election approaches.

"Do what you have to get the mining resumed. So many people who are directly and indirectly dependent on mining are waiting for the opportunity to get back in the mining business which they lost some years ago," Sardinha said.

"So many people have come from other States and Goans are jobless. The Government has to make sure that most Goans should get the jobs and ensure that they get the minimum wages according to the rules," he demanded.

On the Mhadei issue, Sardinha expressed concerns over the depleting water level and urged the CM to approach the Supreme Court to save the river.

Meanwhile, the war of words between Sardinha and Churchill Alemao has escalated with the South Goa MP stating that the people of Goa know who Alemao is.  "A leader, who is the former Chief Minister, who has been arrested and jailed twice, I don't want to speak any further," said Sardinha.

Calling Sardinha a 'sample', Churchill said, "I have defeated Sardinha twice. This is the Congress, who put me in jail. Sardinha should be thankful to me for being elected as South Goa MP.”
