MARGAO: Former Benaulim MLA Churchill Alemao said he has no intentions to continue in politics but is being urged, by people from many parts across the State, to make a comeback in South Goa’s political arena. Speaking to the media on Saturday, Churchill also claimed that people were urging him to contest in the coming Lok Sabha elections.

"I had done lots of things for the State of Goa during my tenure as Chief Minister. Several major projects had seen the light of the day and now benefited the people in major ways. I will always be with the people of Goa," said Alemao, who was CM of Goa for 18 days in the 1990s.

“All the people of Goa will find out where I will be, in the coming days,” said the 73-year-old former MP. Expressing satisfaction over the recent results of the panchayat elections, Alemao said that voting with ballot papers was the best option to conduct assembly elections.

He claimed that most of the candidates backed by him have won the panchayat elections in the Benaulim constituency.

"The votes polled by Revolutionary Goans Party, AAP, BJP and Congress have all been witnessed in this election. Where have the votes polled by RG at the time of the Assembly Election gone?" Alemao questioned, taking a dig at the poor performance of candidates backed by RG in the panchayat polls. He also questioned the poll promise of the Aam Aadmi Party, and said, “Where has the free electricity promised by AAP gone?”

He further claimed that the candidates supported by him at the village panchayats of Varca, Benaulim, Colva, Cavelossim and Carmona have won the elections. “Seven candidates of mine have won in Benaulim itself, besides four at Colva,” he remarked.

"Now, people should be alert and aware of how the elections were held. At the moment BJP has claimed the maximum number of winning candidates. Shockingly, RG has failed to poll the votes which they have gained during the assembly elections," he stated.

Alemao has raised serious doubts about the usage of Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) for elections. "I don't want to comment further on the EVMs, but the results of the panchayat elections have proved lots of things,” he added.
