MAPUSA: Due to the negligence of the Public Works Department, the main water pipeline supplying water to areas of Bardez taluka is lying damaged for the last four months which is resulting in wastage of hundreds of litres of treated water every day.

Pipelines located on the stretch of NH 66 at Guirim is damaged and is leaking for the past four months, however, the concerned department has failed to repair the leakage. Many areas of the Bardez taluka witness the issue of dry taps throughout the year. Few days back, the water supply was interrupted due to some technical issues at the Assonora Water Treatment Plant.

Water being of the most important basic necessities, negligence on part of the department and continuous leaking of pipelines is also one of the reasons why the people face scarcity of water.

Pravin Asolkar, a resident of Mapusa, said, "There is water problem in the entire Bardez taluka but the bills are inflating. For the past several months, this particular pipeline on the stretch of NH 66 between Green Park and Bastora junction is damaged and is leaking throughout the day and night with high pressure. Thousands of litres of water is getting wasted every day. The complete negligence on part of the concerned department and the officials have failed to look into this issues. Similar situation is witnessed at other places on the highway where pipeline is leaking," Asolkar said.
