PONDA: The water level that dropped to 1.64 metres at the Opa reservoir in May, on Wednesday reached to 2.71 metres after the first rains. Due to the drop in water level, supply to Tiswadi and Ponda was affected in the summer month.

The drop in water level was worrying the officials of Opa water treatment plant. According to the officials, for smooth functioning of pumps, the water level must be at 2 to 2.50 metres and lower than that may result in malfunctioning of the pumps.

Officials said that after the rains, the farmers who were drawing around 30 MLD water for their bagayats stopped pumping water out of Opa River that is supplied from Salaulim dam.

Now, the Opa plant gets around 48 MLD of water from Salaulim, 30 MLD from Ganjem dam and around 30 MLD from two mining pits at Kodlim.
