MAPUSA: Trinamool Congress Supremo and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday said, “We are not here to rule but to change the future of Goa”.

Addressing a public meeting at Assonora, the West Bengal Chief Minister saluted all the freedom fighters of Goa.

The meeting was held in the backyard and constituency of Kiran Khandolkar, a tall Bhandari leader who left the Goa Forward Party and joined the TMC.

Addressing the meeting Banerjee said, “This is a historical place that created history. Goa and West Bengal have similarities like football, fish, folk songs, sea, etc”.

She accused the BJP of polluting River Ganga. “River Ganga, which is considered to be the purest river in the country, is polluted with dead bodies by the BJP government.”

Banerjee said, “If a Gujarati can come to Goa then why not Bengali and have a leader who can handle the whole country. We are not here to rule Goa but to change the future of Goa.”

Minutes later, at yet another public rally held at Tivim, flanked by the Kandolkars on either side, Banerjee welcomed Alvito D'Cunha, a former member of the Indian national football team. Following the induction, D’Cunha said, “I’ve been an admirer of Didi’s able leadership and the work she has done in West Bengal. The Congress and other parties have failed to defeat the BJP all these years and TMC is the only alternative that will save the State from drowning.”

Reiterating TMC’s resolve to usher in a ‘New Dawn’ in the State, Banerjee said, “Just the way we drove out the BJP in Bengal, in Goa too, the alliance will successfully drive BJP out. BJP’s sunset will begin from Goa.”

At the end of her day long meetings, the West Bengal Chief Minster tweeted a thank you note saying, “As my day comes to an end, my heart is filled with joy. I promise you that I will fight for you till the last drop of my blood. Together, we will save Goa from @BJP4India. We will save Goa from this disaster!”
