MARGAO: A joint inspection took place at the site of the Western Bypass on Thursday evening where engineers of the PWD, National Highway Authority and Water Resources Department (WRD) explained the works they have undertaken to the villagers present.

The inspection was held after locals from Benaulim expressed concerns about the possibility of flooding occurring in the area during the monsoons, as the alignment for the natural flow of water is being changed.

The PWD officials stated that the size of the new culverts being built are much wider than the existing ones and claimed they would facilitate the flow of water smoothly. Discussions were held about keeping machinery at the site during the monsoon and the building of an underpass at a certain area. The authorities were also asked to direct the Sewerage Department to complete remaining road related works as soon as possible too.

Speaking to reporters, after the inspection, local MLA Venzy Viegas trained his guns on the Benaulim panchayat and questioned why there was such a delay in approaching the court given that they already had data from WRD site inspection carried out in July 2022 about the flooding in the area.
