PANJIM: To know the next date when the Congress will be pleased to tell the people of Goa who its candidates for North and South Goa are, you need to look at the festival calendar and see when Gudi Padwa is. When you know, that you may guess that the wait for the elusive Congress candidates is over. But no one from the Congress is giving any surety.
Party spokesperson Vijay Bhike said that the candidates will be declared on the auspicious Padwa festival. (On April 9). That is barely 10 days before the deadlines for filing nominations ends.
However, the Congress has yet again given no concrete commitment on the names or the dates for candidate declaration.
Since the poll schedule was announced by the Election Commission of India (ECI) on March 16, the Congress has released as many as 11 lists of candidates. The Party’s Central Election Committee (CEC) too met in New Delhi on March 27 where names were discussed and the names were submitted to the AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge.
