PANJIM: Amidst opposition criticism, the State cabinet on Wednesday accorded its approval for summoning of four-day winter session of the Goa Legislative Assembly from January 16, 2023.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said that the Assembly session will be commence from January 16, with the customary address by Governor P S Sreedharan Pillai, being the first session of the New Year.
The Opposition led by the Congress is set to work on a joint floor management strategy to take on the State government during the upcoming brief session of the Assembly.
The Opposition has criticised Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar’s decision to restrict the MLAs from obtaining information exclusively from the last five years via Legislative Assembly Questions and for curtailing the session to only four days with no Private Members Day.
This will be first session post defection of eight Congress MLAs into BJP. The MLAs had defected in September this year after the monsoon session of the Assembly held in June-July. The duration of session was also curtailed in the view of panchayat elections.
