PANJIM: As many as 500 households in the North Goa District and parts of Ponda Taluka have availed piped natural gas (PNG) for cooking in a bid to overcome rising prices of LPG cylinders.

The piped natural gas is supplied by the Goa Natural Gas Private Limited, a joint venture of GAIL Gas Limited and the Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL).

The company has started supplying PNG to households of Panjim, Caranzalem, Taleigao, Old Goa and some parts of Ponda Taluka.

The company has been authorised by the Petreoleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) to supply gas to entire North Goa District and Ponda Taluka. Goa Natural Gas Private Limited Chief Executive Officer Ajay Kumar Jindal said, “We are working on three verticals, one supplying PNG to households, CNG for automobiles and 0PNG for industries.”

Jindal informed that some of the major companies situated at Madkai and Kundaim industrial estates have started using this natural gas, which will reduce their costs. More 7-8 companies have also signed an agreement to shift for clean and green fuel while the gas pipeline will also be extended to Usgao areas for the benefit of companies situated there.

The company also intends to supply piped natural gas to commercial establishments like hotel and restaurants, Jindal said adding that it will reduce their LPG usage. The PNG will be   20 to 25 per cent cheaper than the LPG cost, he said.

There are five CNG (compressed natural gas) filling stations for automobiles in its jurisdiction, Jindal said adding it will reduce fuel cost by 40 per cent.

According to Jindal, nearly 7,000 customers have registered with the company and they will be provided PNG as soon as gas is available.

“PNG is very safe than LPG as it is lighter than air. PNG is always safe, convenient and cheaper and more and more people and industries are now switching to it,” Jindal said.
