MARGAO: The Maina-Curtorim Police discovered the  body of a 24-year-old woman, Lalita,  in a suspicious manner at a house near Rawanfond, under their jurisdiction, around 10.30 pm on Friday night.

Preliminary observations suggest marks on her neck, but it is unclear whether the case is a suicide or murder. The police have sent the body for a post-mortem examination at the South Goa District Hospital to determine the cause of death.

The police are currently investigating the incident and have conducted an inquest panchanama. While initial indications suggest suicide, the investigation is ongoing, and all facts will come to light in due course, according to the police.

A senior police officer stated that the case appears to be a suicide, but as she wasn't found hanging, only the post-mortem examination will provide further clarity.

Last week, the Maina Curtorim police discovered the body of an elderly woman, identified as Edna Filomena D'Souza, around 85 years old, in her residence at Sonarwaddo, Raia. The body was found in an advanced stage of decomposition, indicating that the woman had been deceased for some time. As D'Souza lived alone, and due to her advanced age, police ruled out foul play.
