Youth arrested for allegedly raping 16-year-old schoolgirl

MARGAO: The Maina-Curtorim police have arrested a 21-year-old youth, Melkesh, a resident of St Jose Areal, for allegedly raping a 16-year-old school student from a village in Salcete. 

The accused was working in a private firm.

The victim's parents lodged a complaint with the police late Thursday night, and Lady Police Sub-Inspector Veronica Coutinho conducted the investigation. The police have registered the offence against the accused under Section 376 of the IPC for committing rape, Section 8 of the Goa Children’s Act, and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

The police have taken the accused into custody and will send the victim for a medical examination. The accused will also undergo a medical examination after completing all formalities.

The police officer stated that the offence has been registered against the accused, and further investigation is in progress.
