Youth held for posting derogatory remarks against Devi Lairai

PANJIM: The Mapusa police arrested a 29-year-old youth for allegedly posting derogatory comments against Devi Lairai on social media. The accused has been identified as Aryan Salgaonkar.

According to the police, Amit Anant Gaonkar from Manswado, Shirgao, Bicholim, lodged a complaint at the Mapusa Police Station and a case was registered at Mapusa Police Station under sections 153, 153-A, 295-A, 208, 500 read with 34 of IPC.

A team was constituted and the police managed to zero down the accused and arrest him within hours of registration of the case.

The mobile hand set used by the accused has been attached, police said.

Meanwhile, in the earlier crime, a girl from Mapusa had posted derogatory comment on social media and was under scanner of Mapusa Police Station. She had moved an application for relief before the Sessions Court and has been granted interim relief by the till May 28, 2024. The police have been directed not to arrest the girl
