VASCO, APRIL 3
Burglars broke into two computer shops in the port town and decamped with cash and 21 laptops worth a staggering Rs 10 lakh.
According to reports, the incident took place sometime between 9 pm on Friday and Saturday morning, when burglars bent open the shutters and entered the shops.
The burglars stole 17 laptops worth Rs 8 lakh and cash of Rs 6,700 from the ‘P C Station’ computer shop at Sapana Terraces building, Vasco and four laptops worth Rs 1.8 lakh and cash of Rs 30,000 from ‘Macron Computers’, owned by Viresh Dattu Sukerkar, at Rose Mathias Chamber, Vasco.
Incidentally, this is the second burglary at ‘P C Station’, owned by Yogesh Kerkar, after a burglary had taken place barely three days after it began business. The ‘P C Station’ had received the 17 laptops from the distributor barely a few days ago and they were to be delivered to the teachers who had applied for laptops under the cyberage scheme.
“It doesn’t appear to be the work of a local gang as the modus operandi used in the burglaries in Panjim and Vasco are similar,” said Vasco DySP Mahesh Gaonkar. “The police are on toes to nab the accused as soon as possible.”
Vasco police has registered an offence under sections 457, 454, 380 of IPC against unknown person.
