
11 more test positive in Sanquelim
BICHOLIM: Eleven patients were tested COVID positive at three different places in Sanquelim, on Friday.
The total number of COVID patients in Bicholim Taluka is now 54.
The Sanquelim Community Health Centre (CHC) Health Officer said that out of total 11 patients found on Friday, eight are from Rudreshwar Colony, two from Desai Nagar and one from Jogalyachi Hali. He added that one nurse from Sanquelim CHC was also tested positive.
The CHC traced the contacts and also sanitised the entire hospital. A total of 141 people were examined and their reports are awaited.
In Bicholim, around 51 tests were conducted on RTO and IDC employees on Thursday. All came out negative.
Eight swabs from a private company at Maulingem and 35 from Sarvan village were collected and their test reports are awaited.
Further, the district administration distributed essential commodities to around 530 people from Sanquelim containment zone. These included vegetables and other items such as tea powder, oil etc free of cost to the people in the containment areas of Bandarwada, Desainagar and Gauthan Sankhali and sealed areas of Muzarwada, Sanquelim.
The said essential commodities were distributed by the Bicholim mamletdar, Pravinjay Pandit in the presence of SMC chaiman, Yeshwant Madkar; councillors including Anand Kanekar, Brahma Dessai, Rashmi Dessai, Shubhada Sawaikar, Damu Ghadi and others.

Pernem: Three persons from Deulwada, Ozari including two employees of a private company based in Verna and the staff of Fire and Emergency service were tested positive for COVID-19. They have been shifted to the COVID Centre.
The person from the fire station had attended a wedding.
Dr Pednekar Health Officer at the Purva Health Centre informed that 64 swab samples of the immediate family members and neighbours of the three persons had been collected for testing
Meanwhile, the news of positive cases created anxiety amongst the villagers. Nagzar villagers decided to keep Nagzar market shut for the next four days given that this is the main market from neighbouring villages including Ozari. Only stores dealing with essential commodities will remain open.
Six more test positive in Ganganagar, Mapusa
MAPUSA: Six more persons from Ganganagar, Khorlim, Mapusa have tested positive for COVID-19, taking the total number of cases to 12.
Mapusa Municipality Chairperson Ryan Braganza informed that testing has been underway in the area ever since the first COVID-19 person was detected. He added that all the patients have been shifted to the COVID Centre. Pointing out that the access to the area has been cordoned off; he said there is no need to panic.
Over hundred women protest at Mangor Hill
Vasco: Over hundred Women from the Mangor hill containment zone gathered near Varunapuri gate once again with their demands, which include allowed COVID-negative persons to move out of the containment zone so that they can get some income. They had also complained about issues related to the supply of essential goods to them.
The Mormugao Joint Mamlatdar Saish Naik said that their suggestions and grievances will be conveyed to the higher authorities. The major issue they have is that they do not have money to support their families.
Naik added that the Mormugao Deputy Collector and him gave the protestors a patient hearing following which the crowd dispersed. He however informed media that they do not have the power to make such decisions, only the government does. It may be recalled that this has been the latest in the series of protests in the containment zone.
Vasco BJP mandal slams Politicisation of containment zone
Vasco: The Vasco BJP mandal slammed politicians for trying to gain personal mileage by raking up issues regarding the Mangor containment zone and other COVID-related issues. Mandal president Deepak Naik said it’s not right to do politics in the time of a pandemic.
He blamed politicians for trying to instigate the people from the containment zone without knowing that the Vasco MLA has already pitched for the public’s demands with the government and that the district administration has been working hard.
