CM assures financial support to Tiatr artistes

MARGAO: The plea of Tiatr artists’plea for financial help to the government gets positive response. Tiatr artistes were having an extremenly ha to earn a daily livelihood as there are no shows to perform in wake of the COVID pandemic. On Monday Menino Fernandes, President of Tiatr Academy (Goa), Mario Menezes, Vice-President, along with Benaulim MLA Churchill Alemao met Chief Minister at Panjim and submitted the memorandum, asking for financial help to the Tiatr fraternity and Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant assured to do that to help them survive the situation. 

Reportedly, a few days back Herald had highlighted the pathetic situations with regards to the financial crises of the Tiatr artistes, due to no shows of Tiatr in wake of the Covid pandemic. 

"Chief Minister has assured financial help to the Tiatr artist, who at presently facing lots of hardships to earn a livelihood", said Menino Fernandes. He thanked the CM and also Benaulim MLA Churchill for support. 

Mario Menezes said there are around 25,000 Tiatrists participating in Tiatr all over Goa, out of which approximately 700 Tiatrists and their families are fully dependent only on Tiatr. Now during the pandemic time, these families of Tiatr artists are finding it extremely difficult to sustain their livelihood. 

"We have requested Chief Minister to include the Tiatr community and their families, who have no other source of income for the financial benefit. And CM has assured us to help financially", he informed. 

Mario also said that for the past one and half years the Tiatr community has been adversely affected due to the closure of all activities. 

While MLA Churchill Alemao said that Tiatr artists need to be supported at this point in time, as they have contributed a lot to society. The service of Tiatr artistes cannot be ignored or sidelined.

"The government will surely help Tiatrist financially as promised by the Chief Minister", Churchill  stated.
