Locals question why govt has ignored their petitions on double track project

ARROSIM: The villagers and NGOs have been quick to approach various authorities to mark their protest and raise their objections to the proposed doubling of the South Western Railway Track.

However, despite their many follow ups and bearing in mind the gravity of the situation, they are shocked and surprised at the lackadaisical approach of the government.

Last month over 2,000 Goans from various coastal villages from South Goa were prudent in coming together and filing their objection in written form as well as via email correspondence. Several smaller and larger civil society groups were formed with one motto that is to oppose tooth and nail, the SWR doubling of railway track.

And if the government doesn’t reply to the memorandums sent to them, they will decide on their next course of action.

On that note, Anthony Dsilva, an activist from Arossim says, “We are organising awareness meetings in villages to strengthen the movement. Sadly till date there has been no word from the State administration after we submitted our objections to this project.

Olencio Simoes, Goenchea Raponkarancho Ekvott (GRE) General Secretary also confirmed that they have not received any reply.

This has been the case with other such groups too.

Abhijit Prabhudesai of Goyant Koloso Naka group said that they will soon meet the Deputy Collector of Mormugao and other concerned authorities and will try to find out further development on this matter.
