When we hear of Vibrant Gujarat the picture which flashes before us is of various state leaders and industry captains sitting under one roof discussing business. Similar sights will be seen here in Goa next year, October 17-19, when Vibrant Goa will make an effort to provide the State a global platform of business opportunities. VIKANT SAHAY takes a look at how this mega event is shaping up as the preparation for it has already begun

While Goa basks in the glory of being a tourist and IT state, it should expect something new by October 2019. The atmosphere will be vibrant during October next year with the inflow of tourists of a different kind. They will be here not only to see the beautiful sand, sea and surf but they will be trashing out some serious business deals with Goan companies.

To make local companies ready for the mega event ‘Vibrant Goa’, the founder, president and mentor of Global Network (who launched several series of Vibrant Gujarat, Tamil Nadu etc) Dr Jagat Shah has already tied laces to ensure that all companies who are participating in the event are well prepared.

“The feedback we got from about 60 per cent of Tamil Nadu entrepreneurs was that the event was big and good but they were not prepared to take on the spot decisions. For Goa this will not be repeated and we will ensure that we will mentor the Goan companies for nearly one full year,” said Dr Shah at the launch of Vibrant Goa.

The VG-GES is scheduled to be held at the Shyama Prasad Mukerjee indoor stadium between October 17 and 19, 2019. The event promises to see the participation of delegates from over 20 foreign countries, from across India with over 200 exposition stalls. The expo will have a knowledge summit which is being organised by the newly formed Vibrant Goa Foundation in partnership with the Business Networking International (BNI) and Global Network supported by the Government of Goa.

“The Vibrant Goa Global Expo and Summit (VG-GES) 2019 will give Goan business a big boost. After our government initiated a new, IT Policy and Start-up Policy in Goa, a lot of people across India have evinced an interest in doing business with Goa. We have a real opportunity to make Goa a real IT destination in India,” said Rohan Khaunte, Minister for IT, Revenue and Labour and Employment. He also pointed out that it is easier to do business in Goa now, as most government departments have gone online and this had sped up the work.

Pitching has already begun and many have registered and booked their stalls. Road show events are also being planned at different countries with help of Consulates, Embassies, BNI and through the Goan diaspora.

Dr Shah explained how there would be a total of 17 international road shows across five continents and 20 road shows across India in order to rev-up business opportunities for Goa and the Vibrant Goa summit. “In every road show, we will be accompanied by at least two Goan businesses who will get the unique opportunity to meet and interact with businesses outside Goa. There would be three business seminars in Goa in the run-up to the October event with a special focus on USA, European Union and the Middle East,” said Dr Shah.

Rajkumar Kamat who is the brain behind this entire concept of have Vibrant Goa and then connecting with the expert, Dr Shah, said, “Quality of life in Goa attracts all and sundry as the State which is also blessed with natural beauty has fairly developed infrastructure as compared to other parts of the country. It is time to use this infrastructure and showcase to the business world what Goa can offer. We at BNI and GEMS have been organising Goa Biz fest every year for the benefit of businesses and they have been successful to a limited extent as it was confined to business opportunities within Goa. Now we want to take this to a global level.”

Chairman of the Vibrant Goa and also national President of Manufacturing Association of IT (MAIT), Nitin Kunkoleinker said, “It is time for Goan businesses to pull up their socks, identify their strength and look at future opportunities which align with our strength and prepare ourselves to compete globally. We must take advantage of the free trade agreements between India and various other countries.”

Srinivas Dempo, chairman of the Dempo Group during the launch of Vibrant Goa mentioned that, “Our group actively participated in three Vibrant Gujarat series, which led to our signing a MoU with the Gujarat government to start a ship-building unit in Goa. I thank the State government for backing the Vibrant Goa project and stated that his own group was planning to invest Rs 500 crore in the next four years into the Goan economy in the fields of tourism (with a five star hotel project in South Goa) and a state-of-the-art educational institute among other projects.”
