Top tiatrist Antonette no more

MARGAO: Versatile artiste of the Konkani Tiatr stage, Antonette de Calangute, well known for her tragedy roles, breathed her last on Thursday.

MARGAO: Versatile artiste of the Konkani Tiatr stage, Antonette de Calangute, well known for her tragedy roles, breathed her last on Thursday.
She is survived by husband Bonny Pereira and two sons Clifton and Collin. The funeral will take place on Sunday at 3.30 pm at the Colva Church.
Born on March 6, 1963, Antonette had been battling for life for some time now after suffering from kidney failure. She was admitted to the Manipal hospital on March 4 and was shifted in the ICU on Wednesday after her condition deteriorated. She died at around 2.40 am on Thursday, which also happened to be her birthday.
Fifty-one year old Antonette had won the hearts of tiatr lovers in the State and outside for her character roles in her illustrious career. She acted in tiatrs of almost all top directors and had won numerous awards. Amongst the host of awards, she had won the Kala Academy award, besides the Dalgado Cultural award for lifetime contribution to Konkani culture in 2012.
She also won accolades and immense appreciation for her role in the tiatr "100 Vorsam" and "Dha Lak" directed by Menino de Bandar.
Besides tiatr, Antonette had rendered her voice in many audio and video CDs and had produced an album ‘Suknnim’ along with husband Bonny Pereira.
President of Tiatr Academy of Goa, Prince Jacob said Konkani tiatr has lost a beautiful and a great artiste, who had won the hearts of tiatr lovers with her tragedy roles over the years.
Condoling her death, Menino de Bandar said Konkani stage has lost a great actor in Antonette's death. She acted in as many as 16 tiatrs directed by me over the years, he said.
