10 Arrested in Connection to Suspected Mob Lynching of Migrant Worker in Muvattupuzha

The town of Muvattupuzha in Kerala was shaken by a tragic incident of mob violence on the night of Thursday, April 4, 2024. Asok Das, a 24-year-old migrant worker from Arunachal Pradesh, lost his life in a case of mob lynching at Valakam near Muvattupuzha. The police have confirmed that 10 people have been arrested in connection with the incident, which has sparked outrage and demands for justice.

According to reports, Das had recently moved to Muvattupuzha in search of employment and was residing in a rented house at Valakam. On Thursday night, he created a disturbance outside the house of a former woman colleague at Valakom junction. This led to a mob tying him to a pole and subjecting him to interrogation. While some sources suggest that the mob also physically assaulted him, locals deny any such claims.

The gravity of the situation became apparent when locals found Das in a severely injured state and promptly alerted the authorities. He was rushed to a nearby hospital and later transferred to Kolencherry Medical College Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries the following day. The initial FIR states that he died due to blunt force trauma to his head and chest.

The post-mortem report of the victim has been a crucial piece of evidence in the investigation. It has revealed the horrific details of the injuries sustained by Das, shedding light on the brutality of the alleged mob lynching. 

The area police have arrested 10 suspects in connection with this case and currently investigating the case.
