Air India Faces ₹10 Lakh Fine from DGCA for Second Violation of Compensation Rules

In a recent development, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has slapped a fine of Rs. 10 lakh on Air India for its failure to comply with compensation rules for the second time. The regulatory body conducted inspections at Delhi, Kochi, and Bangalore airports, revealing that the airline was not adhering to the relevant Civil Aviation Requirement (CAR).

The DGCA issued a show-cause notice to Air India on November 3, following which the airline's response was evaluated. Unfortunately, it was determined that Air India continued to disregard CAR provisions. The non-compliance includes failure to provide hotel accommodation for passengers affected by delayed flights, inadequate training of ground personnel, and neglecting compensation for international business class passengers forced to travel on unserviceable seats.

In response to these lapses, the DGCA has imposed a significant financial penalty of ₹10 lakh on Air India. This incident highlights the importance of airlines adhering to regulatory requirements to ensure the well-being and compensation of passengers facing disruptions in their travel plans.
