Ancient Treasure Chest Unearthed at Fazenda Building, Panaji

A chest containing treasures worth crores, including gold jewellery, antique coins, and various household and religious artifacts, has been unearthed at the Directorate of Accounts Department office in the historic Fazenda building in Panaji. The revelation came during an excavation conducted by the State Archaeology Department, shedding light on a hidden chapter of the region's rich history.


Chief Minister Pramod Sawant announced that the chest, dating back decades, contains a trove of valuable items, including 5000 antique coins and approximately 2.234 kilograms of gold. Additionally, numerous household and religious utensils were found within the chest, painting a vivid picture of life in bygone eras.


According to records found alongside the treasure, the chest had been previously opened in 1992, adding to the intrigue surrounding its contents and origins. Samples from this astonishing find will be preserved for display in the State Museum, offering the public a glimpse into the cultural and historical significance of the artifacts.
