Anjuna Police Arrests Mainul Hasan Chowdhury for Alleged Rape; Accused Apprehended in Nagpur, Maharashtra

Anjuna Police on Friday the arrested Mainul Hasan Chowdhury, a resident of West Bengal, for allegedly committing rape on multiple occasions. The accused is accused of forcefully engaging in sexual intercourse with the victim on December 5th, 2023, and again on December 28th, 2023, in Assagao, Goa.


Acting promptly on a complaint registered on January 6th, 2024, under Cr. No. 05/2024, Anjuna Police invoked Section 376 of the Indian Penal Code against Mainul Hasan Chowdhury. According to the complaint, the accused, who held the position of manager in the complainant's workplace, exploited the victim under the false promise of marriage.


Following the commission of the alleged crime, Mainul Hasan Chowdhury absconded to evade arrest. Despite extensive efforts to locate him at his native address in West Bengal, authorities were unsuccessful. However, through diligent investigative work and technical assistance, Anjuna Police, led by PSI Swapnil Naik and supported by Abhishek Kasar and Sudhir Sawant, successfully traced the accused to Nagpur, Maharashtra.


The accused was apprehended on March 1st, 2024, and subsequently brought to the Anjuna Police Station. Mainul Hasan Chowdhury is presently remanded in police custody for three days as the investigation progresses. The case is under the supervision of LPSI Sneha Sawal of Anjuna Police Station, with oversight by Prashal P.N. Dessai, PI Anjuna Police Station, and Sandesh Chodankar, SDPO Mapusa.


The arrest signifies a triumph for the Anjuna Police, demonstrating their commitment to ensuring justice for the victim and holding those accused of such heinous crimes accountable. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities assure a thorough and impartial inquiry into the allegations against Mainul Hasan Chowdhury.
